Lessons from India winning T20 world cup

We can learn a lot of leadership lessons from sport. Cricket is religion in India. it's like soccer in Brazil. You will have CEOs to Street vendors commenting on the game and I'm no different. 

Today (Saturday 29th June 2024) is a momentous day for many Indians. Congratulations Team India. On becoming the world T20 Cricket champions 🏆 T20 Cricket world cup final had so many lessons.

INDIA was the only undefeated team in the entire tournament. India beat USA, Afghanistan, England, Pakistan, Australia and finally South Africa to win the cup.

In the finals, South Africa needed just 30 runs in 30 balls. The trophy was almost theirs. But In 5 overs SA got choked (again) and could score just 23 runs and lost many wickets. India kept thier nerves, won the game by 7 runs. 

There was an all round display of brilliant batting bowling and fielding by India. Bumrahs brilliance in changing the course of the game by taking crucial wickets when momentum was in SAs favor, Surya presence of mind to take the catch inside the rope,  Hardiks courage to bowl the high pressure last over, Rohits Calmness in deployment of right bowlers at right time, Dravid coaching and strategy, Kohlis brilliance with the bat in a high pressure final, everything came together when it mattered. 

Few key lessons in the month long tournament 

. Luck comes in when preparation meets opportunity. India was best prepared both physically and mentally. In every department batting bowling fielding.

. Purpose is key. Team India in last 12 months was in the final of all three formats. Test, ODI and T20. Lost other two. This time they had to win, T20 cup for 1.4 Billion hearts.

. Team selection had a good mix of experience and fresh talent. Everyone pulled thier weight.

. Team is bigger than any individual. Many indian cricketers are multi millionaires. Individual super stars keeping aside thier egos,  played thier role for team superbly.

. Leadership starts from the top. Rohit leading from front showing aggression in batting. And Calmness in bowling choices, field settings. Rahul Dravids coaching and strategy was executed.

. Mental toughness and keeping your calm when it mattered.

What Tiny Kerala can teach rest of India?

I love a lot of things about Kerala and Keralites/Malayalis. They are entrepreneurial, energetic, hyper.clean, can find them around the globe from Hawaii to Haifa. Some of my best friends from school days till date are Malayalis. And for a thousands of years Tamil nadu and Kerala had same kings and common culture under Pallavas, Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas. There are many things, the Tiny state of Kerala can teach rest of India. The thing I admire most is religious diversity tolerance. The state has roughly 55% Hindus 25% Muslims and 20% Christians. The state is perhaps the best model for all other states of India and perhaps even the world on religious tolerance.  Kerala has religious diversity antiquity and tolerance like no other place.
